Grant Stories

CIENNA HAYES

Burpengary local Cienna Hayes is proof that when you work hard to achieve your goals you’ll be rewarded with great things.

When she’s not playing and training at a national level, she can be found on the field umpiring and coaching at her local club.

The 15-year-old was supported with a $500 Burpengary Community Club Grant to help cover the costs of representing Queensland at the 2024 U16s Softball Nationals in Victoria earlier this month.

Wow, Cienna and her team didn’t disappoint returning home with the National Champions for 2024 title!!!

Cienna’s mum Sandi was watching from the sidelines and couldn’t be more proud of her daughter.

“Cienna played so well at Left Field but was just outstanding with her batting,” Sandi said.

“She appeared in the Grand Final for 1 bat, hitting the first pitch and bringing 2 of her teammates home.

“It was a spectacular hit into the outfield. We are extraordinarily proud of her and all the hard work and dedication she has put into her training for the last three months leading up to the Nationals Tournament.

“We cannot thank you enough for supporting Cienna with the grant which helped us financially to afford to send her to Melbourne to play at Nationals.

“The total cost of the tournament including uniforms was $3000, so the $500 that the Community Club granted her made this so much more achievable and we are all so very grateful that this grant was available.”

Love your work, Cienna!!!

R2Q SHOOTING FOR GOALS

Netball involves a range of skills at all levels, from learning the basics of turning and passing in NetSetGo to executing precise skills and demonstrating strength and agility at representative levels.

That’s why it’s important to have local club, Refuse 2 Quit Netball Academy, that focuses on providing athletes with a comprehensive training program to enhance their skills in this great game!

With an emphasis to enhance the performance of netball players and take their skills to the next level, R2Q Netball Academy launched a training program designed to provide players with a holistic approach to mastering the game.

The PowerUp Program is a four-week program with the objective to develop players’ technical abilities, tactical understanding, physical fitness and athlete education including nutrition and mental resilience.

Club President, Tresina Peeni said the club also aims to foster a competitive and supportive environment to helping individuals reach their full potential.

“We want to see our members pursue opportunities in netball at various levels, including school teams, state and regional competitions and at a national-international level,” Tresina said. “R2Q emphasizes the importance of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship, instilling core values that extend beyond the court.”

The Burpengary Community Club was more than happy to help the club reach their goals with the assistance of a $4000 community grant to purchase four first aid kits, plus a supply of strapping tape, PowerUp program singlets, and a fully personalised 6mx3m club marquee. “This financial support has allowed us to bring our vision to life and kick-start our training and programs to benefit the wider community.

“On behalf our the R2Q team, we'd like to thank the Burpengary Community Club for the amazing support and look forward to working together in the future.”
